I read Eat, Pray, Love and would rate it 2/5. The travelogue cum memoir is interesting and easy to read.. In fact a little too easy, colloquial and journal like..I did not see any art in the writing although it gave me hope that I can become a writer too and a best seller at that!!
ReplyDeleteThe content comes as very self assuming in spite of the author's efforts to be self deprecating and funny.. It was all me, me, me..
I must applaud the Liz Gilbert for her courage and determination to pursue her heart and instinct in finding her peace and purpose in life..She has described the places and people she meets along the way beautifully..
However, I still don't get why this book is revered as life transforming.. Its overly hyped in my opinion..
I guess I will find out how such things happen as I read on Malcolm Gladwell's Tipping Point!
Besides the travelogue aspect, the other thing I enjoyed most about 'EPL' was the writing - the panache and its sassy candor. I thought the author's use of language was both refreshing and effective.
ReplyDeleteThe movie seems to have got people either gushing over or reviling her, and both responses seem rather inordinate.
I suspect that the 'truth' of the writer's experiences have been highly enhanced to boost book sales, but I never got the impression that she saw herself as some kind of New Age Messiah. It's probably a symptom of our times that those least prepared to lead anyone else are exalted to guru-hood.
